Necessary Conditions for Greenhouse Construction

Suitable Land for Greenhouse Construction:

The soil should have a medium texture, proper drainage, and be free of salinity, alkalinity, lime, and gypsum. The location must have proper access to main roads. Steep slopes and windy areas are unsuitable for greenhouse construction. The land should be sized to allow greenhouses to be oriented in a north-south direction.

Adequate Water Supply:

The water should be of appropriate quality. For a 1000 m² greenhouse, the minimum water required during peak summer usage is 8–10 cubic meters per day. Based on available water, the suitable greenhouse area can be determined. One limiting factor for greenhouse cultivation is water salinity (EC). (Refer to the EC article.)

Obtaining a Greenhouse Construction Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad:

Several conditions must be met to receive a greenhouse permit:

• Having essential equipment for temperature and irrigation control in the greenhouse via a central heating system (for greenhouses larger than 0.4 hectares), which uses hot water vapor.

• Heating systems are categorized into three types: individual or compression heaters, convection/connexion heaters, and low-energy radiant heaters.

• Cooling systems include summer and winter cooling. Summer cooling uses fans and misting, while winter cooling uses circulation fans and ventilators.

After equipping the greenhouse, to obtain a construction permit, you must visit your provincial Agricultural Engineering and Natural Resources Organization and submit the required documents. Once the greenhouse permit is issued, you can apply for a greenhouse loan.

Required Documents:

• Ownership documents: official deed, contract, or six-year lease (contracts/leases must be approved by an official body such as the local council or Agricultural Jihad).

• Operating permit for wells or official documents showing water supply from qanats, springs, rivers, or canals.

• Positive water quality test results from a recognized provincial laboratory.

• Appointment of an agricultural expert for greenhouses larger than 5000 m².

After submission, the organization will verify the documents and receive an inspector’s approval on the initial greenhouse condition. Once approved, your permit will be issued. Note that using greenhouse construction loans requires valid collateral.
